"Theatre for human rights" is the name of a 6 month long school course. The goal of the course was to teach students how to act on stage, write and develop a script as well as experiencing the long hard working days of people in the show business. Now my goal was pretty much the same if you exchange "learning how to act" with "learning how to make music for an play." This album contains 10 pieces of music and all the tracks are edited to work more as an album then as an soundtrack. The original music was edited and mixed more to go along with the live show. It felt natural to keep the tracks as they were, but to set them all in more of an "album order" mixed in an "audio only" way. After all, the listener will be lacking the visuals and words from the show. The music on the album is far more "accessible" then what I usually do, it needed to go along with the different monologue's etc, as well as working with the theme of the play which was rape. Now this doesn't mean that this is all "rape music", nothing on this album is overly sad or depressing, my intentions were never to create an typical "stick down your throat nightmare soundtrack". The play itself wasn't even depressing enough to go with that, the intension was never to show how much it hurts to have something forced up between your legs, but rather, to show an realistic view of how society treats rape victims as well as how the "common person" reacts when finding out that his/her friend has been raped or that his/her friend has raped someone. Making this soundtrack was an fairly amazing experience, not because of the actual music making but because of the entire play. Seeing an really thin script turning into a strong 90 minute long show, talking to different actors about everything from their role in the play to how they enjoyed their own "theme" was an good social experience for me. Without the support of the actors I doubt that I would have enjoyed making this so much and everybody was (to my surprise) extremely positive about an "electronic soundtrack". A lot of my insperation actually came from the actors too, just sitting down for an 16 hour long rehearsal pass, studying the different scenes was extremely good for the "creative procces" just as much as it was a pain in the arse sitting a whole day just taking stuff in. For several reasons this experience also made me fairly depressed, studying "rape" in all it's shapes and forms cant be an "all good" experience, watching the different actors and how they reacted on this subject was also very hard as many of them had allready been in touch with this subject more then any human being should ever need to be. Realizing that 1 out of 5 women have been raped or sexually abused in life isn't an positive thought either, luckily we made over a thousand Swedish people aware of this besides making them aware of all the other "forbidden and hidden" subjects within the rape area that is so very taboo in the Swedish society today. After the long, hard and depressing process, everyone finally got their rewards and positive feedback! The show got loads of great responses by pretty much everybody (including Swedish television), people was eager to see it again and people came up to the actors afterwards blessing them while drying they're eyes. I myself also got loads of positive feedback for the music, everything from ugly little teens to 70 year old men came up to me afterwards while i was outside smoking saying how much they liked it and wondered how I went about creating it. I also got two top grades for this (always a plus even though a good play was a much better reward). The soundtrack was given away to the cast & crew, friends and "fans" at the final show, I have gotten plenty of request's for more copies since then, so there might be a few more (55 min long) hardcopys of the album available in the future (just e-mail me if there's any interest - awtyeah(at)gmail.com). The name of the play is "Vad hade du för trosor på dig ?" - there's a big posibility that there will be more shows in the future because of the many requests we got. Just incase you're not planning to visit a small town in Sweden: Here's the music.
